Science and technology. The role of Padua in the development of science and modern technology

The volume will investigate the scientific and technological developments in Padua starting from the 17th century, the 17th re-assessment of mechanical arts which were pivotal during the 19th century, the progressive inclusion of the disciplinary sectors in the framework of the science born during the scientific revolution, and their development in the context of the University of Padua in association with European trends. It will also provide the elements to understand the subsequent inclusion of the disciplinary sectors in the context of the science born during the scientific revolution and their development within the context of the University of Padua. The moments of progressive and regressive change that characterise their entry as independent disciplines in the academic area, although strongly related to one another, will be highlighted. It will focus on the richness that distinguishes the education and research offer in the various sectors up to the 1990s, up to the future prospects and the problems that the 21st century brings with it, also in connection with the choices made by the political class and by the business community, in Italy overall and, particularly, in Veneto.
