A fascinating place, which houses a historical and scientific centuries-old heritage and where history interweaves with botanical research. It is the Botanical Garden of Padua, the world’s oldest university botanical garden and UNESCO heritage site.
For the 800th anniversary, following the tradition of continuous development, there will be a new stop-off point on the already rich museum tour. In addition to the completion of the restoration work on the 19th century “stufe” (greenhouses), the new historical Museum of plant biodiversity, the richest of its kind in Italy and among the most important ones internationally, will be set up inside the 16th century palazzo. Beside herbariums, algariums and the different collections of the current Botanical Museum, it will be possible to admire an authentic 19th century apothecary, which ideally fulfils the 16th century request – never satisfied – to place one inside the “Orto dei semplici” (herb garden).
Following the successful opening of the Garden of Biodiversity, the Botanical Garden widens its offer, in an authentic journey across five centuries of the history of botany and the use of medicinal plants.
